3.1D - Long-Term Contract extension service time requirements
6-Year Contract Extension= Requires 2 years of Arbitration achieved or 5 years of MLB Service Time Achieved
7-Year Contract Extension= Requires 2 years of Arbitration achieved or 5 years of MLB Service Time Achieved
No player shall receive any contract longer than 5 years in length until they have either:
A) Reached 5 years of Major League Service Time OR
B) Been through 2 years of salary arbitration.
- 1-year contract extensions that avoid arbitration will not count. The player must actually go through arbitration.Warning* Violations over $25 million will result in the loss of $25 million and a 1st round draft pick.
Summary:
At the time of signing this contract, the player was only eligible for a 5-year contract because he had only been through arbitration 1 time and did not yet have 5 years of pro service time. This makes years 6 and 7 of this contract illegal. Year 6 (2055)($15,00,000) is illegal + Year 7 (2056)($15,000,000) is illegal resulting in a fine of $25,000,000 and a 1st round draft pick.
This fine will be paid off via Misc. player expenses in the following seasons:
2048: $3,191,987 Team Cash Taken
2049: $10,904,006
2050: $10,904,007- Atlanta will lose the 2049 1st round draft pick that they acquired from Minnesota.
- Years 6+7 will be removed from the contract making it a legal 5-year contract.
